The two most powerful antennas of Grigoriopol transmitter in Transnistria has been destroyed.
In the early morning of April 26, two explosions erupted in the village of Mayak, Grigoriopol district: the first at 6:40 and the second at 7:05. As of 9 am, the two most powerful antennas are out of service, one a 1000 kW and the other a 500 kW. Both were transmitting Russian state owned radio (most likely Vesti FM on 1413 kHz).
It was built in the late 1960s.
A giant 100 metres high 1000 kW antenna is capable of transmitting waves over any distance – the waves can circle the Earth and come back.
The main customers of transmitting service are the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network and the Transworld Radio.
