30 May 1983 GBR. Maidenhead. 103.0 FM. First broadcast takes place of Radio Pythagoras. Initially with 4 watts, but soon to increase to 20 watts. This station is to also put out about 4 SW broadcasts in a few years time and cover much of the UK and Germany. The music played includes Dead Kennedys, Eric Satie, Brian Eno, Judy Tzuke, Jon Hassell, Beatles (sorry), Crass and Phil Manzanera all feature in the first show. Later shows included Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, The Enid, Jan Garbarek, Carla Bley and Einstürzende Neubauten, Ivor Biggun and Bela Bartók in the same show!
30 May 1987 GBR. Wirral. 104.8 FM. Radio Julie today features Neil Bishop and Mark Ross
30 May 1988 GBR SE London. 91.8 FM. WNKR is on air this Bank Holiday

29 May 1972 NED. Zaandam. The Mi Amigo is sold at an auction and bought by Gerard van Dam, apparently to be used as a free radio museum. The larger, and arguably more suitable Caroline (formerly Frederica) is too badly holed, plus has no studio or transmitters left, and is towed away for scrap.

FIN. After testing a new balun antenna, Radio Flamingo closes down for some 10 months.
28 May 1982 GBR. London. 103.8 FM. DBC is noted on air with Chuckie, Dr Martin and Smilie, Lepke, and Rankin Miss P.
28 May 1984 GBR SW London. 1323 kHz MW. Radio Jackie is noted today with shows by Mike Knight and Dave Small
28 May 1986 GBR. London. RFM team meet with a rig builder at a pub in Kilburn, who is willing to build a 150-watt rig for £150.
28 May 1988 GBR. Dudley. 102.0 FM. Freedom 87.9 becomes Freedom 102, as the station has moved back up the band in an attempt to attract more listeners, however, over the next few months three big raids in four months brings the station to a temporary close. A return using a link from Old Hill to Dudley ends in both being raided.
There is an entry for ‘late May’ if anyone can put a precise date to it I would be grateful…

25 May 1988 GBR. Colchester. 91.0 FM. Freedom Overflow’s reserve transmitter is used with a test broadcast. Although the signal gets out well, it also causes TVI!
